Reprocessed by stacking with frames taken from 20th January 2010 unfiltered. A total of 40 frames stacked. Far less noise and more detail. Had to crop much closer though because of rotation stacking issues.

An experiment to see how this would come out taken with an f/15 Mak-Cass. Certainly not what you’re meant to use for this type of object. It means you can still actually see the trapezium.

Includes Planetary Nebula NGC 2438. The most southerly Messier object I’ve imaged to date. Couldn’t guide because the guidescope had frozen up -3 degrees C and frosty.

Moonlit night and hazy sky – not great conditions but the first of 2013 and a new Messier object to add to the list. Definitely needs some flats.

Have gone back to piggyback guiding because the OAG was just so fiddly to setup and acquire a guide star.  Not convinced it was producing any better results either.

Lots wrong with the processing – still can’t get rid of hot pixels. Dust on sensor cover I think and flats haven’t totally got rid of it. But quite pleased.
